Congratulations copywriters. You had two real choices when you decided to become an advertising creative. And like Indiana Jones, you chose the one that’s not going to melt your face off. You chose copywriting. You chose wisely.
Sure, art direction has its seductive allure. You get to make “art.” You can listen to music that has lyrics without getting distracted as you kern and crop. And you always get to go on the shoot. But don’t be fooled by such petty novelties. Art Directors should be pitied, not envied.
